Overview

As Leningrad came under siege in 1941, Dmitri Shostakovich retreated to an air raid shelter and — astoundingly — composed his Seventh Symphony. Marshaling a massive orchestra, he evokes the march rhythms of Nazi soldiers, citizens’ cries of anguish and, finally, a defiant victory hymn. Carlos Miguel Prieto, hailed for his “extraordinary ferocity and drive” (The Guardian), conducts this gripping score.

Note location: This event takes place at Wentz Concert Hall & Fine Arts Center, 171 E. Chicago Ave., Naperville, IL.
