Meridian String Quartet at Kehrein Center for the Arts

Mar 19, 2024

Overview

The Meridian String Quartet presents a pair of 20th-century chamber works by Hungarian composers and close friends Zoltán Kodály and Béla Bartók. Kodály was passionate about preserving his heritage, and his String Serenade for two violins and viola is typical of his style: a blend of folk inspirations and modern harmonies, wrapped in a classical trio form. Béla Bartók’s String Quartet No. 5 is a modern masterpiece, representing a mellowing of the composer’s style by reducing dissonant sounds and increasing rich harmonies.

This event is free. Tickets are required and reservations open on March 5.
