What inspires your love of music?
My love of music started at a very young age with my dad playing mostly jazz and classical music on a turntable in our home in suburban Cleveland. Fortunately, my parents introduced me to the Cleveland Orchestra, where I looked so forward to their performances. I was also inspired with piano and flute lessons during middle and high school and enjoyed listening to my mother play Clair de lune on the family piano.
What initially drew you to the CSO?
One of the first cultural experiences when I moved to Chicago in 1980 with very limited funds, was getting tickets to a CSO concert, conducted by Sir Georg Solti. I splurged soon after for a subscription, which I have enjoyed ever since. Music is a very personal and emotional sensation that allows the mind to wander and explore memories and feelings in a way that words alone cannot.
Why do you feel it’s important to support the CSO as a member of the Theodore Thomas Society?
The CSO is a very important part of my life and what makes Chicago such a vibrant city. Supporting this culturally iconic organization is one way to give back, preserve our shared heritage and help ensure that future generations can experience and appreciate its impact. I am proud to be a member of the Theodore Thomas Society.
