Overview
Sean Jones is a “trumpeter on the ascent” (Chicago Tribune), whose artistry on his instrument intersects with a keen understanding of jazz’s perpetually modern tradition. With his latest project, Dizzy Spellz, Jones examines the legacy of groundbreaking trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie in a program that beams Gillespie’s be-bop influences through a prism of hip-hop, tap dance and Afro-futurism. Chicago native Thaddeus Tukes, an “up-and-coming vibraphonist with something significant to say” (Chicago Tribune), makes his Symphony Center debut with his quintet in a set of soulful, bluesy originals that plants Tukes firmly in the rich lineage of Chicago jazz.
