Daniil Trifonov, the CSO’s Artist-in-Residence for the 2024/25 Season, launches the first of his three Chicago residencies with a Nov. 17 recital.

The performance, which also opens the Symphony Center Presents Piano series, features music of Tchaikovsky, Chopin and Barber. An artist conversation with Trifonov will follow the recital.

During his November residency, Trifonov also will lead a master class Nov. 18 with college-level pianists from DePaul, Northwestern and Roosevelt universities. The master class will be at DePaul University School of Music’s Allen Recital Hall in the Holtschneider Performance Center, hosted by John Milbauer, dean of the DePaul School of Music.

Trifonov returns March 9 for an SCP Chamber Music series program with internationally celebrated violinist Leonidas Kavakos in works by Beethoven, Brahms, Poulenc and Bartók. A conversation with the artists follows the performance.

Trifonov also joins Zell Music Director Designate Klaus Mäkelä and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in Brahms’ Second Piano Concerto during subscription concerts May 1-4; that program also includes Dvořák’s Symphony No. 7 and the CSO’s first performances of Initiale by Pierre Boulez.

During his spring residency, Trifonov will lead an April 30 master class with the four piano finalists of the 2025 Crain-Maling Foundation CSO Young Artists Competition. This master class will occur at Symphony Center.

Both master classes are open to invited community audiences with support from the Negaunee Music Institute at the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
