Can’t decide which concerts to select? Over the next weeks, staff members will offer their own choices for the must-see performances of 2024/25.
Timothy Fox, Patron Services associate, champions several well-known piano works being performed throughout the season — both in a recital setting and with the CSO — along with some other not-to-be-missed Symphony Center Presents concerts.
Here are his top selections for the 2024/25 season:
Jordi Savall — Monteverdi: A Baroque Revolution, Oct. 8: Some of the most beautiful music I’ve ever heard came from baroque composers. It will be a tremendous opportunity to hear this program performed on period instruments in our spacious, resonant hall.
Jean-Yves Thibaudet, Jan. 19: Thibaudet will be performing both books of Debussy’s Preludes, music that was a catalyst for my love of the piano. Debussy’s compositions are extraordinarily pleasant and have informed a lot of popular music today.
Cécile McLorin Salvant, Feb. 21: Cécile McLorin Salvant is one of the most unique voices not only in jazz, but across all music today. I had the incredible pleasure to see her perform at the Newport Jazz Festival many years ago and have been thinking about her set ever since. You will not want to miss this program!
Seong-Jin Cho Plays Prokofiev, Feb. 27–Mar. 2: Prokofiev’s Second Piano Concerto is a monumental accomplishment in orchestration. It is a wild contrapuntal journey that feels profoundly cinematic. Seong-Jin Cho was amazingly virtuosic during his performance on our last season, and he will be a perfect soloist for this piece.
Maria João Pires, May 25: Maria João Pires has achieved legendary status and sits among the greatest pianists of our time. I fell in love with her Bach interpretations many years ago, and I’m excited to hear whatever program she decides on.
