Read the program book for Glass & Rachmaninov, Nov 9-11, 2023.
Karen Gomyo joined the Chicago Symphony Orchestra on Thursday for a breathtaking performance of Philip Glass’ First Violin Concerto, a piece with restless rhythmic drive featuring his signature flowing melodies. Preceding the concerto, guest conductor John Storgårds led the orchestra in Sibelius’ atmospheric Pohjola’s Daughter, and the concert concluded with Rachmaninov’s melancholic Third Symphony.
