Jason Charos

Jason Charos is a jazz trumpeter, composer and arranger based in New York City. He is a graduate of the University of Miami Frost School of Music, where he served two years as a teaching assistant to Brian Lynch. In 2019, he recorded as a member of the trumpet section on Brian Lynch’s big band album The Omni-American Book Club, which garnered a Grammy Award for Best Large Jazz Ensemble Album. In 2022, he was a recipient of the Laurie Frink Career Grant, which afforded him the opportunity to be mentored by NEA Jazz Master Billy Hart. Charos began touring and arranging for multi Grammy Award–winning artist Samara Joy in March 2023. Since then, he has traveled across the United States, Europe, South America, Asia and Australia as a member of her septet. In 2024, he recorded on Samara Joy’s Grammy–winning album Portrait, on which he contributed two arrangements: “You Stepped Out of a Dream” and “No More Blues.” He appeared with Samara Joy’s band on The Today ShowThe Kelly Clarkson ShowCBS Saturday Morning and 60 Minutes. Charos released his debut album, Opening Statement, in 2025 on Brian Lynch’s label Hollistic MusicWorks. It features performances from Kendric McCallister, David Mason, and Connor Rohrer from Samara’s ensemble, as well as Dafnis Prieto, Brian Lynch, Melvin Butler, Carlo De Rosa and Ludwig Afonso. The album has received acclaim from notable publications, including making the list of “Best Jazz Albums of 2025” by The Times of London.
