Mimi Duginger

What inspires your love of music?

My mom was a pianist and church organist who shared her love of music with my brother and me. She especially enjoyed accompanying us as well as our classmates at concerts and music contests. My mom also enjoyed accompanying singers at weddings and when they just wanted to sing for enjoyment. In many ways, I followed in my mom’s footsteps. I attended the University of Illinois where I majored in music education, and this led to my lifelong career as a music educator.

What initially drew you to the CSO?

I spent most of my career teaching elementary music in Northbrook public schools. Every year, I took my third graders to one of the CSO school concerts. It was always a thrill watching my students’ faces as they listened intently to the music we had studied in class. The music came to life for them through the orchestra’s performance. After I retired, I continued sharing my love of music through the many educational programs offered through the League of the CSOA. I also became a loyal Thursday A subscriber.

Why do you feel it’s important to support the CSOA as a member of the Theodore Thomas Society?

Our support is vital in maintaining the status of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra as one of the finest orchestras in the world. The extensive outreach of the entire Chicago Symphony Orchestra Association creates powerful and meaningful musical connections, both locally and throughout the world. Our support ensures these successes!
