Overview

Zell Music Director Designate Klaus Mäkelä charts a musical journey through his native Finland, underscoring his commitment to today’s composers with two works by Magnus Lindberg: a United States premiere and the First Violin Concerto, here featuring Lisa Batiashvili. Discover the piece that London’s Times called “a thrilling new addition to the violin repertoire … charged with a Sibelius-like sense of radiating light and excited affirmation.” The program ends with Sibelius’ First Symphony, which evokes impressions as wondrous as the Northern Lights and as wild as a winter storm.
