Overview
A quartet of musicians from the Chicago Symphony Orchestra respond to Professor Steven Rings’ prompt to explore “Music in Times of Crisis.” This somber and reflective chamber music program explores Jewish composer Leo Smit’s tragically unfinished String Quartet, Dmitri Shostakovich’s iconic String Quartet No. 8 — dedicated to “the victims of fascism and the war” — and George Crumb’s unconventional work Black Angels, which evokes the ominous sounds of Vietnam War attack helicopters.
