Overview
The Civic Orchestra opens its season with three works all composed in the United States, anchored by Rachmaninov’s Symphonic Dances. Composed during his exile in the U.S., the suite combines memories of old Russia with a jazzy, new-world exuberance. Commissioned by the CSO, Elizabeth Ogonek’s 2017 dance suite expresses what she calls “a sense of overwhelming happiness and joy.” John Adams’ kinetic showpiece evokes an exhilarating ride in a sports car.
