Soundpost — Remixing Transit: Found Sounds with Rachel Steele

Mar 30, 2023

Overview

Soundpost: Remixing Transit is an interactive, site-specific, audio-visual installation and art exhibition that highlights the power of cultural exchange and place-making through music.

Attendees are invited to explore a series of large-scale structures that highlights how public transit and synthesized sounds are based on the encoding of data and time-based performance, leaving visitors to reflect on how they connect with their immediate surroundings and the distinction between music and noise.

Remixing Transit combines architectural elements of the Chicago Transit Authority with found sounds and original compositions to examine connectivity, urban transit, environmental degradation and sociocultural boundaries in Chicago.

Soundpost programming will also include a brief talk by Rachel Steele on sampling, found sounds and the composition process of Remixing Transit, followed by a short sound performance using found sounds.

Soundpost events include light bites and discounted drinks.
