Overview
In Response to Madness takes listeners on a journey through various tonalities, explores reality and fantasy, and ultimately arrives at a celebratory finale. In this program, the fellows of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago bring new, interdisciplinary music to the concert stage. Kelley Sheehan’s R.A.M. for open instrumentation and video is complemented by Eleanor Alberga’s Shining Gates of Morpheus and Devin Clara Fanslow’s Riding the Huxley, both tonally friendly and fantastical works. Alex Temple’s Party at the Last Resort is the vertex to counter Joel Thompson’s In Response to Madness in this voyage from hysteria to celebration.
