Ever wonder how the legendary musicians of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra interpret the music they play? Then a new series, Orchestral Excerpt Insights, is for you.
Some of the musicians will take a more technical approach to their insights, but in general the videos will follow a broader theme of how to cultivate compelling musicianship. In other words, these won’t be “how to audition for an orchestra” videos.
Produced by the Negaunee Music Institute, this free series of educational videos features musicians of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra performing and sharing personal insights about orchestral music excerpts regularly requested in orchestral auditions.
Videos will be released beginning March 1 on the Experience CSO website, with the first batch consisting of Mahler’s Symphony No. 5 with Principal Trumpet Esteban Batallán, Strauss’ Ein Heldenleben with Concertmaster Robert Chen, Kodály’s Dances of Galánta with Principal Clarinet Stephen Williamson and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 with Principal Bass Alexander Hanna. New videos will be posted at the beginning of each month through June.
