A Mexican string quartet adventure, from Julián Carrillo to Hilda Paredes

Clockwise from top left: Carlos Chávez, Gabriela Ortiz, Arturo Márquez, Silvestre Revueltas and Hilda Paredes.

To celebrate Mexican Independence Day and the Hispanic Heritage Month, this is a selection of 15 Mexican string quartets, including pieces by historical composers as Julián Carrillo, Silvestre Revueltas, Carlos Chávez and Manuel M. Ponce, and contemporary compositions by dynamic living composers. As a plus, there are works by remarkable composers exiled in Mexico such as the American Conlon Nancarrow and the Spanish Rodolfo Halffter.

The works are listed chronologically by date of composition. Enjoy and share!
