In this video interview, mezzo-soprano Anita Rachvelishvili, who sang the role of Santuzza in the Chicago Symphony Orchestra’s concert presentations of Mascagni’s Cavalleria rusticana in 2020, calls the work “a typical operatic story, where somebody dies at the end … but the music holds it together. And the music of ‘Cavalleria rusticana’ is something very special.”
The concerts were recorded for CSO Resound, and the recording will be available on digital platforms beginning Sept. 16. A physical release will follow on Nov. 25 in international markets and Jan. 6 in the United States.
