The CSO and Zell Music Director Designate Klaus Mäkelä continued their first tour together with a train ride south out of NYC’s Penn Station toward their third U.S. tour stop and next destination, Bethesda, Md. The CSO’s concert on February 27 represented a debut appearance at The Music Center at Strathmore and the Orchestra’s first performance presented by Washington Performing Arts since 2018.
Designed by William Rawn Associates Architects, Inc., acousticians Kirkegaard Associates and Theatre Project Consultants, the Music Center and its extraordinary Concert Hall opened in 2005 and have provided an outstanding new venue with exceptional acoustics for live music. Embracing this new environment, Klaus Mäkelä and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra shared their tour program that opened with Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7 and concluded with Berlioz’s dramatic Symphonie fantastique. Before the concert and at intermission, musicians found time to reconnect with more family, friends and patrons who stopped by to catch the CSO on tour.
