Europe 2024 Tour

Brussels rehearsal

The CSO reunites on stage for the first time in several weeks for a rehearsal in Henry Le Bœuf Hall at Palais Des Beaux Arts in Brussels on Thursday, January 11. Maestro Muti and the CSO use the time to go over several of the works that will be performed during tour while getting acquainted with the acoustic of this hall.

Maestro Riccardo Muti, CSO music director emeritus for life, greets principal bass Alexander Hanna with a warm smile and pat on the cheek as they prepare for the first rehearsal of the Europe 2024 Tour. Muti last led the CSO in two weeks of concerts to open the 2023/24 concert season in late September in Chicago.

CSO viola Max Raimi takes in a view of the stage from the back of the main floor while warming up. In addition to viola performance, Raimi’s musical life includes composition. His work Three Lisel Mueller Settings was commissioned by the CSO, premiered in concert in March 2018 and released on the CSO’s latest commercial recording, Contemporary American Composers, in 2023.

It’s good to get the band back together. This rehearsal marks the first time the orchestra is on stage together since the final performance of Handel’s Messiah in late December.

Stage technicians move a piano into place on the stage. All of the cargo moves on its own itinerary throughout the tour in order to arrive at each location in time.

International travel for an entire orchestra and its cargo requires a lot of paperwork, including customs documents, visas and other forms. Here, CSO director of operations Heidi Lukas, who oversees all of the planning and logistics for CSO tours, assists musicians with one of the required forms.
