After a few weeks of programs at Symphony Center, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Riccardo Muti have returned to the road. Traveling to Kansas City, Missouri, on Feb. 26, the CSO arrived at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts to perform two jewels of the 19th-century repertoire by Schumann and Tchaikovsky as part of Kansas City’s Harriman-Jewell Series.
Under Muti, the CSO’s strong sound reverberated throughout the intricately designed hall, located downtown near Kansas City’s Crossroads Arts District. Joining the CSO on the road after three performances at Symphony Center, esteemed violinist Julia Fischer was soloist in Schumann’s autumnal Violin Concerto.
Before the concert, 11 CSO musicians led free-to-the-public master classes at the Conservatory of Music at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, including UMKC graduate and CSO viola Youming Chen.
Up next: four concerts in Florida, beginning Feb. 28 in Orlando.
