Women’s History Month 2026

March, when the seasons change, also marks Women’s History Month. From early pioneers such as Hildegard of Bingen, 20th-century composer Florence Price and conductor Margaret Hillis, to contemporary conductors Marin Alsop, Mei-Ann Chen, Karina Canellakis and Mallory Thompson, and performers such as Joyce DiDonato, Samara Joy and Yuja Wang, women have made important contributions to the legacy of classical music and other genres. Here are just a few of their stories.
