Women’s History Month 2025

March marks Women’s History Month. From early pioneers such as Hildegard of Bingen, 20th-century composer Florence Price and conductor Margaret Hillis, to contemporary conductors Jane Glover, Marin Alsop and Karina Canellakis and performers such as Vilde Frang, Iveta Apkalna and Julia Fischer, women have made important contributions to the legacy of classical music and other genres. Here are just a few of their stories. PHOTOS (from top left): Jessie Montgomery, Missy Mazzoli, Gabriela Ortiz, Florence Price and Mel Bonis.
