Out at the CSO: Pride Night at Symphony Center
Kick off Pride Month at Symphony Center!
Join Dr. Lady J — drag queen, musicologist and historian — for a captivating preconcert conversation hosted by the Overture Council — a community for Chicago-area young professionals aged 21-45 who share a love of music — exploring the vibrant intersections of drag and classical music, highlighting the artistry and contributions of LGBTQIA+ artists. Enjoy appetizers provided by Industry Ales and beverages provided by Revolution Brewing and Sidetrack Chicago.
Next, the CSO takes the stage in Orchestra Hall for an all-American program conducted by James Gaffigan, featuring pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet in Bernstein’s The Age of Anxiety and a stirring selection of spirituals performed by the Apostolic Church of God Sanctuary Choir.
Enjoy a postconcert celebration hosted by Neutral Gena, with drag performances from Chicago’s finest entertainers Ari Gato, Rachel Slurrz and Sativa Diamond n’ Stuff, as well as a special appearance by Dr. Lady J. DJ Jenny Fox will guide the evening from concert to club.
Secure your ticket to new experiences, connections and conversations at Symphony Center.
Specially priced concert tickets are $40 with promo code PRIDE.
Separate reception tickets are free and also required. When ordering your concert ticket, you will be prompted to add the free reception ticket after selecting your seats for the concert. Both a concert ticket and reception ticket are required for entry.
Thursday, June 11
6:00 Preconcert lecture with Dr. Lady J hosted by the Overture Council (doors open at 5:30)
7:30 CSO concert: Gaffigan, Thibaudet & Bernstein
9:30 Afterparty in Grainger Ballroom
As part of the CSO’s tribute to 250 years of American history, Jean-Yves Thibaudet takes on the extravagant, jazz-infused piano solo in Leonard Bernstein’s The Age of Anxiety, based on W. H. Auden’s poem about the quest for faith and meaning. Sumptuous orchestral highlights from Gershwin and Weill musicals frame a stirring selection of spirituals performed with the Apostolic Church of God Sanctuary Choir.
