Augustin Hadelich is recognized as one of the foremost violinists of our time. Renowned for his ravishing tone, dazzling technique, and deeply compelling interpretations, he captivates audiences and critics alike. He tours extensively across the globe and is a frequent guest with major orchestras, prestigious concert series and international festivals.
In summer 2026, Hadelich appeared at some of North America’s most prominent festivals, including Tanglewood, Aspen, Ravinia, Bravo! Vail, and the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. He then took center stage as artiste étoile of the Lucerne Festival, with a residency spanning several concerts in different formats. He also returned to the Salzburg Festival, where he performed Brahms’s Violin Concerto with the Vienna Philharmonic under Christian Thielemann. In fall 2026, a tour with the Berlin Philharmonic under Kirill Petrenko took him to Lucerne, Edinburgh, and the BBC Proms in London, followed by a European tour with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra under Manfred Honeck. The concerts in Hamburg and Vienna also marked the start of his residencies at the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg and the Wiener Konzerthaus, which showcase Hadelich’s many facets as an artist through a range of concert formats.
Since February 2026, Augustin Hadelich has been artistic partner of the Mahler Chamber Orchestra. In January 2027, at the Salzburg Mozartwoche, he and the orchestra embark on a multi-year cycle of Mozart’s violin concertos, comprising both concerts and live recordings.
Further highlights of the 2026–27 season include his concert with the Berlin Philharmonic under Daniel Harding at the Berlin Waldbühne in June 2027. Hadelich also appears worldwide with leading orchestras, including the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks, Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Cleveland Orchestra, and the NHK Symphony Orchestra. Solo recitals in Europe, North America, and Asia, as well as a duo tour with Seong-Jin Cho, round off the season.
Hadelich’s discography documents his stylistic versatility and spans large parts of the violin repertoire. His recording of Dutilleux’s Violin Concerto L’Arbre des songes earned him a Grammy Award in 2016. Since 2018 his recordings have been released on Warner Classics, among them Paganini 24 Caprices, the violin concertos of Brahms and Ligeti, Bohemian Tales with the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks, Bach’s Sonatas and Partitas, and Recuerdos, featuring works by Britten, Prokofiev, and Sarasate. His most recent album, American Roadtrip (2024), recorded with pianist Orion Weiss, is a musical journey through American musical culture from jazz and blues to romanticism and the avant-garde. It received an Opus Klassik Award in 2025.
Augustin Hadelich, now a dual U.S.-German citizen, was born in Italy to German parents. He studied with Joel Smirnoff at the Juilliard School in New York and won the International Violin Competition of Indianapolis in 2006. He has been a member of the faculty at the Yale School of Music since 2021.
He plays the 1744 Guarneri del Gesù “Leduc, ex Szeryng,” on loan from the Tarisio Trust.
