Andrey Boreyko

Andrey Boreyko recently concluded his successful tenure as Music & Artistic Director of Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra and Choice. Over the last 5 seasons, his inspiring leadership raised the standard and profile of the orchestra with whom he toured extensively across Europe, Asia, and the US, in addition to regular appearances at the Penderecki Festival, Beethoven Easter Festival, and Chopin & His Europe Festival. Their numerous recording projects include an interesting variety of lesser-known repertoire such as Giya Kancheli Libera me, Penderecki Christmas Symphony (no. 2), Kletzki Sinfonietta in E minor, Szymanowski Mythes and Masques.

A regular guest of the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Boreyko returns this season to conduct Shostakovich’s monumental Babi Yar Symphony no 13. This follows his hugely successful performance of Shostakovich Symphony 5 in 2022/23, which he paired with Elena Langer The Dong with a Luminous Nose (world premiere) and Victoria Vita Polevá Nova (UK premiere), to great acclaim.

Other 2024/25 highlights include Vienna Symphony Orchestra with Julia Fischer, with concerts at the Vienna Konzerthaus and Festival der Nationen in Bad Wörishofen. With Antwerp Symphony, Boreyko celebrates Giya Kancheli’s 90th anniversary in a special subscription programme featuring the composer’s Libera Me (Quasi-Requiem) and Prokofiev Symphony 3. 2024/25 guest engagements elsewhere also include Aarhus Symphony, Hamburg State Philharmonic Orchestra, Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Stuttgart Philharmonic, and Vancouver Symphony, with whom Boreyko will perform Zemlinsky The Mermaid alongside Mahler songs with Thomas Hampson. Following the success of his recent Asia tour with the Warsaw Philharmonic, Boreyko returns already to Tokyo in June 2025 to conduct Shostakovich Symphony 11 with the New Japan Philharmonic.

Boreyko remains a much-liked guest of orchestras such as Vienna Radio Symphony, RTVE Symphony Orchestra (Madrid), Prague Symphony, having also returned in recent seasons to Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin, Gürzenich Orchester Köln, Montreal Symphony, Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia, Sinfonica Nazionale RAI, and Valencia Orchestra. During his time as Resident Conductor of Orchestra Sinfonica de Milano between 2022-2024, Boreyko conducted numerous subscription concerts and several high-profile performances including season-opening gala concerts at the Teatro alla Scala, and Maher’s Resurrection Symphony at the Mahler Festival.

In 2022, Boreyko concluded his eighth and final season as Music Director of Artis—Naples. Previous appointments include Music Director positions of the Jenaer Philharmonie, Hamburger Symphonies, Berner Sinfonieorchester, Düsseldorf Symphoniker, Winnipeg Symphony, and Orchestre National de Belgique.
