Overview
A program of sharply drawn character portraits opens with Richard Strauss’ whimsical tribute to the medieval prankster, Till Eulenspiegel. Jamaican-born British composer Eleanor Alberga honors the memory of a dear friend, a “tower of strength.” Brahms never revealed the story behind his Third Symphony, but the radiant score is an unmistakably personal work, steeped in vigor, despair and tenderness.
