Before musicians of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra returned to Carnegie Hall for the second of their two sold-out concerts with Riccardo Muti, they spread out across midtown Manhattan on assorted missions.
As part of a Patrons Tour supporting the CSO’s Carnegie performances, musicians and patrons stopped at New York City’s American Museum of Natural History, which has a new wing designed by Chicago-based Studio Gang Architects. Meanwhile, back at Carnegie Hall, CSO trombone Michael Mulcahy and Principal Bassoon Keith Buncke gave master classes for students from Carnegie’s NYO USA/NYO2, the Juilliard School, New England Conservatory and Juilliard pre-college program. The master classes were part of Negaunee Music Institute activities organized for the tour.
Patrons and musicians visit the American Museum of Natural History, where they received a private tour of the new Richard Gilder Center for Science, Education and Innovation, led by project architect Anika Schwarzwald.
