Jazz Appreciation Month 2023
In April, the nation celebrates the heritage and history of jazz — regarded as the first truly American art form, dating to the 1890s. The Smithsonian Museum of American History established National Jazz Appreciation Month in 2001 to celebrate the culture, music and heritage associated with jazz. In Chicago, several institutions advance the genre’s cause, including the Jazz Institute of Chicago, the Chicago Jazz Festival and many long-running venues such as the Jazz Showcase. And of course, Symphony Center Presents Jazz, which marks its 30th year in 2023/2024, presents the leading and rising stars of the genre in an eight-concert series.
