Muti Conducts Saint-Georges’ Overture to L’amant anonyme

OVERVIEW

Riccardo Muti and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra performed the Overture to L’amant anonyme by Joseph Bologne, the Chevalier de Saint-Georges, to open the 2021/22 concert season at Symphony Center. A champion fencer, war hero and contemporary of Mozart, Chevalier de Saint-Georges is considered the first Black European composer of note whose music, while wildly popular and influential during his lifetime, has long been overlooked. This performance was recorded on September 25, 2021.
