Violinist Julia Fischer launches the online JF Club to sell her recordings

Julia Fischer has released more than a dozen recordings on major labels of Decca and Sony Classical. But the famed German violinist, who will present a duo-recital March 30 with Canadian pianist Jan Lisiecki as part of the Symphony Center Presents Chamber Music Series, says her involvement with such projects is over.

Instead of any future studio releases, Fischer is making recordings of her performances available on her website via what is known as the JF Club. For a 5-Euro fee each month, members get access to her playing, as well as her interviews with collaborators, social media posts and newsletters, and they can interact with other fans.

“Nowadays, I find studio recordings kind of useless, because all the concerts are being recorded,“ she said. ”So, wherever I play, there is a livestream or the possibility to [to do] patch sessions after a concert. So, going into a studio to record a hard-cover CD — I just don’t see why I should do that.”

Fischer does not know how many members of JF Club she has and professes not to care. “I don’t see it so much as a business, but as possibility to share what I want to share,“ she said. ”I’m not so interested in the numbers, I have to admit.”
