The Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Riccardo Muti garnered multiple standing ovations at a spirited opening night concert of the 2023/24 Season on Thursday, which featured two pieces capturing the fairytale splendor of Russian music. Liadov’s mystical The Enchanted Lake launched the program, and was followed by a suite from Stravinsky's beloved The Firebird. After intermission, the Orchestra gave an energized performance of Brahms' picturesque Second Symphony, with its pastoral character and jubilant finale.
