In his final subscription program as CSO music director, Riccardo Muti led the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Chorus in a moving performance of Beethoven’s landmark choral-orchestral score Missa solemnis for a packed hall on Friday evening. The concert also featured a quartet of renowned vocal soloists — soprano Erin Morley, mezzo-soprano Alisa Kolosova, tenor Giovanni Sala and bass-baritone Kyle Ketelsen — and the chorus was prepared by guest chorus director Donald Palumbo.
Immediately following the concert, Muti was recognized by CSOA President Jeff Alexander and CSOA Board Chair Mary Louise Gorno with the new artistic title Music Director Emeritus for Life during an onstage ceremony. We look forward to welcoming him back to Chicago in future seasons as he continues to stay closely connected with the Orchestra in this new role.
