Czech conductor Jakub Hrůša drew from the Chicago Symphony Orchestra the full range of musical expression necessary to intimately explore the existential themes of Mahler’s Ninth Symphony at Orchestra Hall on Thursday evening. The sensitivity and intensity of the performance was only matched by the audience’s enthusiasm.
