Thursday night in Orchestra Hall, David Afkham led the CSO in a programmatic concert juxtaposing three quintessential French impressionist pieces — Debussy’s glittering La mer and Ravel’s dancelike La valse and Menuet antique — with Shostakovich’s darker and more manic First Violin Concerto. Featured as soloist was Vadim Gluzman, who navigated the work’s intensely virtuosic passages with ease and precision.
