Soprano Rachel Sparrow is praised for her “terrifically accurate, effortless sounding fioratura” and has performed across the United States, Europe and South America.
She has won several awards in national and international competitions, often winning the title of audience favorite in nearly every competition in which she participates. Sparrow won first prize in the Alexander & Buono International Vocal Competition in 2014, and her subsequent Carnegie Hall debut showcased her ability to sing across genres, from the most virtuosic of coloratura repertoire (such as “The Bell Song”) to her own arrangements of American gospel music to Broadway-style belting.
Sparrow’s versatility is frequently featured in new works. She is particularly interested in performing on projects that inspire change for positive social purposes or offer children exposure to classical or culturally rich music. She sings with the Chicago Symphony Chorus, Music of the Baroque and new music chamber choir Stare at the Sun. When not performing, she teaches regularly. Sparrow enjoys leading her children and their friends to perform at senior centers and churches.
She earned two bachelor’s degrees from Idaho State University in music education and vocal performance, a master of arts in opera at Northwestern University and a certification in early childhood music. She also arranges sacred songs in folk and classical styles and plans to release her debut album of her arrangements soon.
