Anne-Sophie Mutter is a musical phenomenon: For 48 years, the virtuoso has been giving concerts in all major music centers worldwide, shaping the classical music scene as a soloist, mentor and visionary. The four-time Grammy Award winner is equally as committed to performing traditional compositions as to the future of music.
She has premiered 31 works so far - Thomas Adès, Unsuk Chin, Sebastian Currier, Henri Dutilleux, Sofia Gubaidulina, Witold Lutosławski, Norbert Moret, Krzysztof Penderecki, Sir André Previn, Wolfgang Rihm, Jörg Widmann and John Williams have composed for Anne-Sophie Mutter.
She dedicates herself to supporting top young musicians and numerous charity projects. The board of trustees of the non-profit German Cancer Aid elected her as the new president in 2021. She joined the Lucerne Festival Board of Trustees in 2022. In 1997, she founded the “Freundeskreis Anne-Sophie Mutter Foundation eV,” which was joined by the Anne-Sophie Mutter Foundation in 2008. These two charitable institutions provide support for scholarship recipients, support that is tailored to the fellows’ individual needs. Since 2011, she has regularly shared the spotlight with her ensemble of fellows, Mutter Virtuosi.
Anne-Sophie Mutter’s concert calendar, with performances in Asia, Europe and North America, once again reflects the violinist’s musical versatility and her unparalleled standing in the world of classical music. Earlier this year, European tours with Dallas Symphony led by Fabio Luisi featured Ms. Mutter performing Williams’ Violin Concerto and with Pittsburgh Symphony and Manfred Honeck, Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto. She celebrated her 36th year of collaboration with pianist Lambert Orkis with a recital tour to Asia, and later in Europe, performing Mozart, Respighi, Schubert and Clara Schumann. The duo will then embark on a tour to the US in April of 2025, with recitals in Champaign-Urbana, IL; at Carnegie Hall; in Ann Arbor, MI; San Francisco, CA; and at the Library of Congress in Washington, DC. In May 2025, Yefim Bronfman and Pablo Ferrández will join Ms. Mutter on tour in the US performing Beethoven’s “Archduke” Trio and Tchaikovsky’s Trio in A minor in La Jolla and Costa Mesa, California; Carnegie Hall; and at Orchestra Hall in Chicago.
Ms. Mutter has been awarded the German Grand Order of Merit, the French Medal of the Legion of Honor, the Bavarian Order of Merit, the Decoration of Honor for Services to the Republic of Austria, and an honorary doctorate from the Krzysztof Penderecki Academy of Music in Kraków. She has been recognized around the world for her contribution to the arts, culture, social causes, and leadership.
Ms. Mutter records for Deutsche Grammophon and Sony Classical, and her recordings are available on EMI Classics and Erato/Warner Classics.
