CSO Judson and Joyce Green Creative Consultant Yo-Yo Ma brings the power of Bach’s timeless music to Chicago with a free concert at Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park. As part of his worldwide tour The Bach Project, Ma gives a solo performance of all six of the composer’s transcendent cello suites in one sitting. “Bach’s cello suites have been my constant musical companions,” he shares. “For almost six decades, they have given me sustenance, comfort and joy during times of stress, celebration and loss."

More information about the Bach Project:

Yo-Yo Ma doesn’t shake hands, he hugs. He remembers names, makes eye contact and asks, “How have you been?” He is a force of positive energy and optimism in an often cynical world. Although his tenure as the CSO’s Judson and Joyce Green Creative Consultant concludes this season — a post held by the world-renowned cellist since its creation in 2010 — his impact will long-lasting. “We should not just hope for immediate success,” said Ma at a recent Negaunee Music Institute event, “but envision what success should look like 20 years later.” Read more at CSO Sounds & Stories

This performance is presented in partnership with the City of Chicago’s Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events.

This concert is generously sponsored by Judson and Joyce Green with generous support provided by Dean and Rosemarie Buntrock, Sylvia Neil and Dan Fischel & Helen and Sam Zell & Randy L. and Melvin R. Berlin.
