Haydn, Beethoven, Schubert

Sunday, June 9, 2019

“Buchbinder’s ability to bring the music to life, to inhabit each of the phrases, is extraordinary” (Bachtrack). The Austrian pianist performs works by Haydn and Beethoven, plus Schubert’s final, majestic sonata, for an unforgettable close to the 2018/19 Symphony Center Presents Piano season.

Haydn Sonata in E-flat Major, Hob. XVI:52
Beethoven Sonata in C Major, Op. 53 (Waldstein)
Schubert Sonata in B-flat Major, D. 960

Strauss/Grünfeld Soirée de Vienne, Concert Paraphrase on Johann Strauss [ENCORE]
Bach Gigue from Partita No. 1 in B-flat Major, BWV 825 [ENCORE]

Rudolf Buchbinder performs a wide range of music from J.S. Bach to present-day works, but one composer towers above all the rest. “There is no question that Beethoven is at the center of not only my repertoire but perhaps also my life,” he said. “This person has fascinated me from the beginning.” Read more at CSO Sounds & Stories
