Michael Tilson Thomas returns to conduct seminal Russian works including Tchaikovsky’s profound and beloved Sixth Symphony. Nicola Benedetti brings her “pure and gleaming,” (The New York Times) sound to Prokofiev’s Second Violin Concerto.

Of Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto No. 2, Nicola Benedetti insists, “[He] has a cynicism combined with a child-like fantasy ... and yet [the work] is so, so beautiful.” The first movement of this concerto has a sort of split identity: “very angular and sharp, sort of unfriendly harmonically.” She declares: “I can’t quite describe to you how much I love this concerto.” Read more at CSO Sounds & Stories
