More than 30 years after the passing of founding pianist Count Basie, the Legendary Count Basie Orchestra continues to chart new directions with its signature swing still leading the way. Journey with them as they pay tribute to the ensemble’s creator with a concert of works that travel through cities connected to Basie’s legacy. Tony Award®- and three-time Grammy® Award-winner Dee Dee Bridgewater celebrates the musical legacy of her hometown with her newest project, Memphis, which features showstopping R&B hits from the 1960s and 70s, including “I Can’t Get Next to You,” “Hound Dog” and “Try a Little Tenderness.”

Approximate concert duration: 135 minutes including intermission

To be announced from stage.

For vocalist Dee Dee Bridgewater, who salutes her hometown on "Memphis ... Yes, I'm Ready," her latest album, the experience of stepping outside of her comfort zone for some Southern soul is a challenge: “I’m trying to pay homage to a specific period of time,” she said. “I want to give justice to the songs and the recording artists who did these songs.” Read more at CSO Sounds & Stories
