Performers

Acclaimed violinist Joshua Bell plays a Stradivarius violin that has a fascinating story. In this essay, Bell reveals the history of this remarkable instrument and how he came to play it. The violin's history "is complete with twists and turns to rival the film that I had only recently finished working on, 'The Red Violin.'" One of only five or six instruments made in 1713 by Antonio Stradivarius, the violin has belonged to many famed soloists, including English violinist George Alfred Gibson and Polish émigré Bronislaw Huberman.
