Additional Dates for this Program

Though Ashley Brown made her name as a Broadway star, she also enjoys a parallel career as a soloist in pops concerts with many of America’s top orchestras. “It is a different challenge to tell the story of a song without costumes and sets and lights. I can take the audience on a ride through different songs.” After appearing last season in the CSO's holiday revue "Merry, Merry Chicago!," Brown returns for her second go-round, with six concerts Dec. 15-23. "Chicago is one of my favorite cities,” she said. “I call it the clean, laid-back New York." Read more at CSO Sounds & Stories

For the past few years, Emil de Cou has begun listening to Christmas music in mid-summer. It is his professional duty. As the conductor of and emcee for the CSO’s annual “Merry, Merry Chicago!” holiday concerts at Symphony Center, he is tasked with helping to craft a program that’s both familiar and unique. “The challenge is to avoid the things that people always do,” says de Cou. Additionally, the repertoire must be suitable for a world-class orchestra. “So you don’t want arrangements that are too simplistic or that don’t show the orchestra off, because they’re the stars of the show.” Read more at CSO Sounds & Stories
