Civic Orchestra: Mahler Symphony No. 1

Jan 22

8:00 PM

Bartók, Mahler

Monday, January 22, 2018

Acclaimed Venezuelan conductor Rafael Payare conducts a devilishly rhythmic suite of music from Bartók’s ballet The Miraculous Mandarin. Mahler’s First Symphony foretells the symphonic master’s ability to evoke a near-infinite orchestral color palette. Traveling into uncharted tonal territory, it brims with bird calls, love songs and German folk influences.

Approximate concert duration: 115 minutes including intermission
