Muti Conducts Bruckner 4

Sep 28

8:00 PM

Rossini, Ogonek, Bruckner

Thursday, September 28, 2017

"Nobility, lyrical feeling and dramatic thrust are keys to Muti's approach to the Bruckner symphonies. The sound he elicited from one of the world's great Bruckner bands was lean and incisive" (Chicago Tribune). Riccardo Muti and the CSO continue a multi-season exploration of Bruckner's symphonies with the sunny Romantic Symphony. Also on the program is the rousing William Tell Overture and a world premiere by Mead Composer-in-Residence Elizabeth Ogonek, whose music has been praised as "lush and enticingly scored" (The Arts Desk).

Approximate concert duration: 120 minutes including intermission

Poetry is “incredibly important” to Elizabeth Ogonek, CSO Mead co-composer-in-residence. She based her world-premiere work All These Lighted Things on the poems of Thomas Merton. Many of her compositions have been inspired by text or include words to be sung or spoken. “It was a developmental thing for me, using text as inspiration but also as a structuring element," she said. "It helped me hone in on the things that were important to my craft as a composer." Read more at CSO Sounds & Stories
