Iconic jazz artist and 2015 NEA Jazz Master Charles Lloyd returns to Symphony Center with his recently assembled collection of stalwart musicians, including guitarist Bill Frisell, whose refined, textural style of playing has influenced generations. “Charles Lloyd and his aptly named band The Marvels keep melody in the foreground. That's not exactly jazz business as usual. But listen to where it leads—to music that evokes an uncommon state of grace” (NPR). The concert opens with remarkable Chicago cellist Tomeka Reid, the Chicago Tribune’s 2015 Chicagoan of the Year in Jazz, who brings her quartet for an SCP Jazz series debut.
