Muti, Beethoven's Emperor Concerto & Lupu

Apr 28

8:00 PM

Beethoven, Liszt

Friday, April 28, 2017

Riccardo Muti leads Radu Lupu, who is “as close to being the embodiment of pure music as one can get” (St. Louis Post-Dispatch), in Beethoven’s noble Emperor Concerto. Liszt’s Dante Symphony is a symphonic poem full of fire and fury that depicts Dante's Divine Comedy.

Note for the Newcomer: Of his five piano concertos, Beethoven's Emperor Concerto is the only one not premiered by the composer himself. His deafness was quite advanced in 1811 when the concerto was first publicly performed.

Approximate concert duration: 120 minutes including intermission
