Two mini-concertos, Gabriella Smith’s Riprap for marimba and Missy Mazzoli’s Dark with Excessive Bright for double bass, anchor this eclectic program. Mario Diaz de León’s Anima for three cellos is inspired by ancient vocal traditions. The late Canadian post-minimalist master Ann Southam’s Webster’s Spin for string orchestra evokes the meditative tranquility of weaving and sewing.
