As part of the 2016/17 season, Riccardo Muti and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra will travel to Europe for an 11-concert tour Jan. 13-27. The trip, which marks the sixth European sojourn under Muti, will be the CSO’s 33rd tour to Europe and the 60th international excursion in its history. Seven cities are on the itinerary: Paris; Aalborg, Denmark; Hamburg, Baden-Baden and Frankfurt, Germany; Vienna, and Milan, where the CSO will perform at the historic Teatro alla Scala. The tour also serves as a homecoming for Muti, who was music director of La Scala from 1986 to 2005. Since beginning his tenure as CSO music director in 2010, Muti has embraced the orchestra’s long legacy of international touring. During these years, he led the CSO on European tours in 2011, 2012 and 2014 (winter and fall). He also traveled with the CSO to Europe in 2007.
