Gino Banks has been fooling around with the drums since he was 8 years old and took it up seriously at the age of 15. He is the son of Louiz Banks, India's legendary jazz pianist and composer.
He is highly in-demand as a first call drummer for live concerts, studio sessions and production work.
Gino has been performing and recording with artists and bands of all types of genres.
With musical legends like his father Louiz Banks, Ustad Zakir Hussain, Pt.Hariprasad Chaurasia, Pt.Shivkumar Sharma, Ustad Rashid Khan, Pt.Vikku Vinayakram, Pt.Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, U.Srinivas, Fazal Qureshi, Taufiq Qureshi, Ustad Sabir Khan and others to Bollywood sessions and gigs with Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, Salim-Sulaiman, Vishal-Shekhar, Amit Trivedi, Pritam, Hariharan and MTV Coke Studio with Hitesh Sonik and the MTV Unplugged sessions with various artists to fusion groups like Niladri Kumar’s Sitar Funk, Rakesh Chaurasia's RAF, Ravi Chary Crossing, Anandam (Selva Ganesh/Karthik/Ravi Kulur), Bala Bhaskar, Amaan & Ayaan Ali Khan and Vravi to rock bands like Helga's Fun Castle, Joe Alvares, Gary Lawyer, Skinny Alley, Soulmate, Blackstrat Blues, Zero, Vayu, Baiju Dharmajan Syndicate and NerveRek.
He has performed with international musicians like Mike Stern, Guthrie Govan, Tony Lakatos, George Brooks, Osam Ezzeldin, Leni Stern, Jay Oliver, Angela Hagenbach, Jonas Desai, Carl Clements and The Maske Trio.
As well as with Dance Troupes like Pt. Birju Maharaj's Kathak Group, Aditi Bhagwat, Kaveri Sageder and Terence Lewis Contemporary Dance Company and many more.
He also had the honour and privilege of playing on a few tracks on the Miles From India Album produced by Bob Belden, nominated for a 2009 Grammy in the Contemporary Jazz Category with Times Square Records, NYC; a fusion of Great Indian Classical Musicians and Miles Davis Alumni Musicians.
Gino is also involved in music education with drum workshops, masterclasses and private lessons around the country.
He is part of the guest faculty at the TSM-True School of Music and a mentor at FSM-Furtados School of Music & The Garodia Music School.
Gino regularly works out of his studio - Gino's Den - where he does most of his recording work and rehearsals.
