Anthony Garton has a background in teaching music at all levels, K - college, for the past 45 years. He retired 7 years ago from the University of Wisconsin, Fox Valley, where he initiated courses in interdisciplinary music/literature studies.
Currently Garton is doing pre-concert lectures for the CSO and Fox Valley Symphonies. Prior to his involvement with the CSO he did several years of lecturing for the Lyric Opera. He has had fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts (Harvard Institute in Arts Administration) and the National Endowment for the Humanities (Dartmouth College). The Dartmouth seminar was interdisciplinary in music & literature, specializing in Gebrauchtmusik & Aaron Copland.
Garton received B.M. degree from the University of Wisconsin and M.A. degree from Columbia University. He keeps busy in retirement by volunteering with World Relief refugee re-settlement and Meals-on-Wheels. He lives in Appleton, Wisconsin with his wife Jane.
